MOS tube and IGBT tube are important components inside the car onboard charger, how to distinguish them?


MOS tube and IGBT tube, as new electronic devices with high frequency used in modern electronic equipment, are widely used in various electronic circuits. They are important electronic components in vehicle onboard charger, DC-DC converter and module power supply.

Due to the MOS tube and IGBT tube shape and static parameters are very similar, resulting that it is very easy to make mistake in the selection, judgment, procurement and use, so this article specifically provides a reliable identification method, as our selection and use of reference.

MOS tube is MOSFET, Chinese name is metal oxide semiconductor insulated gate field effect tube, with high input impedance, fast switching speed, good thermal stability, voltage control current and other characteristics.

IGBT tube, Chinese name is insulated gate bipolar field effect transistor, which is a combination of MOS tube and Crystal triode, the MOS tube as an input tube, Crystal triode as an output tube, both after the combination of the advantages of the MOS tube, and the advantages of Crystal triode.

MOS tube and IGBT tube play the important roles in new energy vehicles, such as the On-Board Charger produced for new energy vehicles by Dilong New Energy,onboard DC Converter (DC-DC Converter) and other products are installed inside the MOS tube or IGBT tube.

In addition, they are also widely used in automobile charging piles, mobile phone chargers, LED lighting, industrial and other power conversion fields, is the most core part of all kinds of power modules, is to achieve high efficiency conversion of electric energy, ensure the power module stable and not overheating key components.

After the AC enters the onboard charger, the MOS tube or IGBT tube controls the on-off of the current through the chip to form a pulse current, which is then converted into the DC power supply required for the charging of the new-energy vehicle power battery through inductive coupling.

It can be seen that MOS tube and IGBT tube are the "heart" of onboard charger, and is also the electronic component with high frequency used in current electronic equipment. Although the two are very similar in appearance and static parameters, there are still certain ways to distinguish.


Here we can first apply voltage to the gate of MOS tube and IGBT tube through a multimeter, so that the field effect tube can establish a channel, and then use the resistance range of the multimeter to measure the resistance value between D, S and c, e, according to the difference in resistance value to distinguish the MOS tube or IGBT tube.

According to the measurement, the conduction degree of MOS tube and IGBT tube is different, and the resistance value between MOS tube D and S is far less than that between IGBT tube c and e, at which time they can be distinguished.
